Daily Kos: Boycott Scotland? Go F**k Yourself
Comment: A typically crude response from the allegedly "progressive alternative" media. They have compassion for terrorists, but not for the victims of Lockerbie. Daily Kos should be ashamed of themselves. The author also mistakenly attributes the Boycott Scotland campaign to FBI Director Mueller's letter. This is incorrect. The campaign started here at this website just prior to the release of al-Megrahi.

Comment: Scottish tourist and trade officials claim to be unconcerned and compare this boycott to the boycott of France several years ago. However, the comparison is in poor taste as this one has been organized for very personal reasons by several relatives and friends of the Lockerbie victims. To dismiss our concerns as they do is to show a complete lack of compassion and empathy on their part. And yet, they have no problem with compassion being shown to al-Megrahi. They expect Americans to continue visiting Scotland as if nothing had happened. Do they not realize that every time someone connected to the Lockerbie tragedy returns there to pay their respects they will have to endure the memory of the betrayal of MacAskill and the SNP? How can any of us return there without this fact haunting our visits? This betrayal has done nothing but tarnish and stain the memory of our loved ones permanently. For these people in authority to be so dismissive of our concerns is to pour salt over our wounds.

The Herald: What did MacAskill mean by ‘higher power’?
Comment: One reader writes: "I note the Americans are calling for a boycott of Scottish goods. I don't hear a similar demand to boycott Libyan oil." Incorrect. In 2006, the Bush Administration, ignoring the protests of the Lockerbie families as well as others opposed to the Libyan regime, removed Libya from the list of state sponsors of terror. Not surprisingly, this was done in order to re-establish trade relations. In 2007, ExxonMobil was awarded oil leases and restarted its old subsidiary, ExxonMobil Libya. Again, the families of Lockerbie protested, but were ignored by both the State Department and ExxonMobil. Today, the Obama Administration has a chance to reverse this dangerous scenario. ExxonMobil only just began exploratory drilling July of 2009. It isn't too late to put a stop to it.

Comment: It is ironic that they don't consider bashing and boycotting America to be "hate," a common practice in Europe, and yet refer to us in those terms. As with Mr. Salmond's dismissal of our concerns, there is the insulting lack of respect displayed towards the American perspective on this situation as well as towards the American families of the Lockerbie victims who opposed Mr. MacAskill's "compassionate" release of a mass murdering terrorist, as well as the lack of acknowledgement of responsibility in holding accountable the travesties of their own elected politicians who are responsible for the deterioration of their international standing.

Comment: One of our members is acquainted with Eric Corley (the publisher of 2600 magazine and the host of Off The Hook on WBAI Pacifica and Off The Wall on WUSB Long Island), although he is unaware of her involvement with this campaign. At the time of the release of the terrorist al-Megrahi, strangely enough Eric was in Scotland and briefly discusses the boycott on this broadcast and remains remarkably neutral on the subject (more or less.)
